Learn Linux: Installation and Overview Online

This course is for anyone wanting to get started with the Linux operating system.

This course is for students who want to get started using Linux. Students will install RedHat Linux Fedora Core on their computers. Once the installation is complete students will learn the basics of the command prompt and the graphical user environment. Students will be introduced to some basic system administration.

Students will:

  • prepare for and perform an installation of a Linux workstation.
  • explore the X environment and the available applications.
  • use the command prompt to perform basic Linux file maintenance commands.
  • perform basic system administration commands.

Prerequisites

Students should be familiar with browsing the internet, uploading files and using their operating system.

Requirements

Students will need a PC they can install Linux on or access to a machine running Linux. Optionally, students can install a virtual machine under Windows that will run Linux.
