Linux used to be the operating system of choice for true computer geeks, but in the last few years Linux has matured into an operating system that can compete the more popular operating systems. This course will start with installing Linux on a machine and introduce you to the graphic user interface (GUI) and the tools available there. Students will work with the command line interface and learn to manage files, write and compile programs and write shell scripts. The course will also cover some basic administrative tools like the Apache web server. Students will need a machine on which they can install Linux or a machine that is running Linux.
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with browsing the internet, uploading files and using their operating system.
Requirements
Students will need a PC they can install Linux on or access to a machine running Linux. Optionally, students can install a virtual machine under Windows that will run Linux.
